Situated on the shores and hilly terrain east of Lake Sammamish, the city of Sammamish (incorporated August 31, 1999) features a landscape of trees, mountains, and lakes. With a population expected to pass 40,000 in 2007, Sammamish is a great alternative to its more densely populated neighbors; Redmond to the north and Bellevue to the west. Sammamish is known for its outdoor recreation areas including Lake Sammamish, Pine and Beaver Lakes for water recreation, miles of scenic hiking trails (East Lake Sammamish Trail, opened in 2006, connects to a regional trail system), and four major parks. There is also a teen-oriented skate-park located across from Skyline High School. Sammamish is also home to two private golf clubs: the Plateau Club, and Sahalee Country Club, which hosted the 1998 PGA Championship and the 2002 World Golf Championship-NEC Invitational. The city is part of two school districts: Lake Washington School District (northern Sammamish) and Issaquah School District (southern Sammamish).
